This series is symbolic of the work done by Kaimahi Māori Experience. It is a work epitomising the kaupapa and supportive network which is nurtured.

It depicts a journey of discovery from start, middle and end showcasing the ‘Mana Wāhine’ who work within the department and go through it. The analogy of the Harakeke is a fundamental element to this design, outer leaves protecting and guiding the inner shots.

The whakairo is done in a more contemporary style with no ties to particular Iwi but rather Te Ao Māori as a whole. It is the base of the works creating another layer of mana and kaitiakitanga.

Overall this series is a visual representation of support, connection and growth.

This first panel is the beginning of the journey. Where an individual may feel alone or isolated, perhaps looking for direction.

The manaia used is an allusion to the guardianship which will be fostered in the next few boards.

This depiction of the hongi, is symbolic of the initial contact from the individual with the Kaimahi Māori Experience. The hongi, is a symbol of unity and connection

The tipani flower in the second figures ear is a acknowledgement to pacifica ties and connection.

The manaia and wheku seen in the carving are kaitiaki representing guardianship and people who have been fundamental elements in this program.

This final work is the symbolic end to the journey. It is what both Rangatahi and Kaimahi can gain through the kaupapa. A network of people and skills to aid them for future events.

A waka of knowledge and support is created.

Logo Design

This design, seen within the background of the mural, epitomises its message. It has a dual meaning. It is the outer shoots protecting and nurturing the inner shoots. As well as symbolic of a journey; starting at the lowest point, learning and growing in the middle, guiding the individual in an upwards path towards the future.
